From Middle English bedmaker, bedmakere, equivalent to bed + maker. Cognate with Saterland Frisian Bäädmoaker (“bedmaker”), West Frisian bêdmakker (“bedmaker”), Dutch beddenmaker (“bedmaker”), German Bettmacher (“bedmaker”).
