Etymology

Borrowed from French eucaryote; equivalent to eu- + karyon + a suffix derived from Ancient Greek -ώτης (-ṓtēs).

1. (cytology) Any of the single-celled or multicellular organisms of the taxonomic domain Eukaryota, whose cells contain at least one distinct nucleus.
