insignium
Etymology
noun
-
A symbol or sign of something. In the mystery of the writing of language, the two had become the one; the stylus of the scribe was like the older Neolithic statues of the Great Mother carved on the phallus. The instrument of writing became the androgynous insignium for the sacred wedding of sexuality and language. 1981, William Irwin Thompson, The Time Falling Bodies Take to Light: Mythology, Sexuality and the Origins of Culture, London: Rider/Hutchinson & Co., page 22
