1. A person who owns land.
   The largest owner of tea lands on the island in the late 1800s (and Taiwan’s single wealthiest family) were the Lins of Pan-ch’iao. Along with other great familial and corporate landowners, the Pan-ch’iao Lins drew income from renting their properties under a flexible, sophisticated contractual system of land tenure. 1999, Murray A.
