Probably from * Dutch, from Middle Dutch *ooghelen, oeghelen (“to ogle”), frequentative form of oogen (“to look at”), from oge (“eye”), * or from Low German oegeln, frequentative of oegen (“to look at”), from Oog (“eye”). Compare German äugeln (“to ogle”). More at eye, -le.
