stridulatory
Etymology
adj
-
(usually entomology) Able to stridulate, used in stridulating, or adapted for stridulation. The stridulatory mechanisms and sound patterns in these groups probably reflect the origins of acoustic communication in Orthoptera, particularly since many of the primitive genera lack ears and appear to use sound only for defence, as a plesiomorphic (primitive) condition (Field, 1993a). 2001, L. H. Field, The Biology of Wetas, King Crickets and Their Allies, page 271
