Borrowed from Latin tepidus. Cognate with Sanskrit tap-, Proto-Slavic *teplъ.

1. Lukewarm; neither warm nor cool.
   I'm drinking a cup of tepid water.
2. Uninterested; exhibiting little passion or eagerness; lukewarm.
